Onward Holdings CO., LTD. (Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Michinobu Yasumoto) will begin selling the second phase of upcycled products made from unworn clothing items as part of its "Upcycle Action" project to create new value on Monday, April 7.

Based on our mission statement of "Enriching and Adding Color to People's Lives while Caring for the Planet," we are working on the "Green Onward" project to promote sustainable management. As part of this, we launched the "Upcycle Action" project in the spring of 2024.

The Upcycle Action is a project that creates new value from unworn clothing items by leveraging our creative abilities as a fashion company. In the first phase, we created upcycled items using denim. In this second phase, we have created 95 new items using shirt fabric.

All of the one-of-a-kind items will be on sale at ONWARD CROSSET, the Onward Group's official fashion online shopping site, from Monday, April 7, and at Onward Reuse Park Kichijoji from Friday, April 25.

■ Background to the launch of "Upcycle Action"

Since 2009, the Onward Group has been running the Onward Green Campaign to collect used its apparel items. This year marks the 17th year of the Campaign and a cumulative total of approximately 8.84 million items of clothing have been returned by about 1.7 million customers.

The policy of the Campaign is to reuse, recycle and circulate the collected clothing items instead of disposing of them. Since the spring of 2023, online collection has also been launched and the number of participants is increasing.

We have recycled clothing items into blankets, work gloves and solid fuel, but we have also launched a new initiative called "Upcycle Action" that harnesses the creative abilities of a fashion company.

This project involves employees as creators. This is a place where employees with diverse personalities can express their unique ideas and designs with unfettered creativity that goes beyond the boundaries of their businesses. Creators set their own prices for the items they create, and 90% of the profits are returned to the creators, with the remaining 10% donated to the Japanese Red Cross Society.

The official Green Onward Instagram account (https://www.instagram.com/green_onward/) also shares photos of the items being made. *Japanese only
