CRAHUG, a New Direct-to-Consumer Business, Launched

Onward Digital Lab, which is responsible for the Group's digital strategies, has launched CRAHUG, a new business for sales of "factory brand" (original brands established by factories) products and development and direct sales of original products from producers and factories from across the country, with the aim of supporting production in Japan. In the first phase of the project, 183 products of 13 brands from 12 producers were released on Onward Crosset, the Group's official online shopping site, on August 31, 2021.

The word "CRAHUG" is a combination of "craftsman," "life," and "hug." Under the CRAHUG scheme, we offer sales support to producers and factories nationwide that aspire to build sustainable business models through direct sales and by becoming independent based on a collaboration plan selected from two options. The aim is to enable factories to have a stable business foundation through sales of original products directly to consumers. In the future, overseas sales are envisaged to communicate the expertise of Japanese manufacturing and the attractiveness of Japanese products.

Donating Recycled Blankets in Cooperation with Japanese Red Cross Society

As part of our environmental and social contribution activities, in the Onward Green Campaign, thread harvested from collected clothing items is used to produce blankets and work gloves. Since 2011 in cooperation with the Japanese Red Cross Society, we have been donating the blankets to support disaster-affected areas abroad and developing countries, utilizing the Red Cross network covering 192 countries and regions worldwide. Work gloves are distributed and used for various purposes, such as for disaster relief, forest conservation, and awareness-raising activities.

Support activities for the Tokyo Foster Family Association

ONWARD KASHIYAMA supports the Tokyo Foster Family Association. As part of our support activities, we provide children with clothing every spring through the Tokyo Foster Family Association to congratulate them on their entrance into elementary school.

Tokyo Foster Family Association is a non-profit organization for foster parents and foster children within the Tokyo Metropolitan Government's foster family system (foster parent system) and is one of the leading organizations in Japan in terms of its history and size. In 2014, we began supporting the Tokyo Foster Family Association in the hope that children receiving social care who are unable to live with their families due to family circumstances will grow up equally healthy and become well-rounded adults.

We will continue to work with the Tokyo Foster Family Association to support the healthy growth and independence of children.

Professor Yoichi Nagasawa, Dean, Professional Institute of International Fashion (left), with Michinobu Yasumoto, President and CEO, Onward Holdings (right)

Onward Holdings launched the Onward Mirai Human Resources Project in April 2021 through industry-academia collaboration with the Professional Institute of International Fashion (a university with campuses in Tokyo, Osaka, and Nagoya, President: Seiichi Kondo), with the aim of nurturing professionals capable of meeting digital needs of the society for the apparel industry.

This project consists of two programs, the Onward Venture Award and the Onward Business Internship, for which participating students earn credits from the Professional Institute of International Fashion. For the Onward Venture Award, teams of students address the Onward Group's issues and make proposals in a coursework that emphasizes problem-based learning. For the Onward Business Internship, the university takes the lead in creation and operation of the program to be carried out at the company.

The Onward Group offers students opportunities to grow as an apparel specialist who can succeed globally with a digital mindset.

Tokyo Planning Lab, a Project-based Learning Experience for High School Students through Industry-government-academia Collaboration

Onward Holdings was involved in Tokyo Planning Lab from July 2021 in a collaborative endeavor with the Tokyo Metropolitan Board of Education and the Association of Principals of Tokyo Metropolitan Commercial High Schools. Tokyo Planning Lab offers Tokyo Metropolitan commercial high school students the chance to acquire practical business skills through industry-government-academia collaboration.

Launched in 2018 by the Tokyo Metropolitan Board of Education and the Association of Principals of Tokyo Metropolitan Commercial High Schools, Tokyo Planning Lab expands the opportunities for Tokyo's commercial high school students to think and learn about business in a practical setting and to help them envision their future careers. Collaborating companies and local communities provide students participating in Tokyo Planning Lab with project-based learning experience, enabling them to learn about marketing through groupwork in class and extracurricular activities.

2021 Tokyo Planning Lab was a five-month program from July in which 29 students from six high schools participated. It included lectures by our employees, group discussion, and final presentations by the students of an original apparel brand conceived from their unique perspectives.
