Onward Kashiyama's Childcare Leave System

Employees who are living with and raising a child under one year of age (including a child in an employee's custody with a view to special adoption, a child entrusted to an employee who is the child's adoptive foster parent, etc.) are eligible for this system. Among such employees, those who apply for childcare leave and who intend to return to work and to continue working at the Company can take childcare leave.

If an employee wishes to enroll his or her child in a licensed nursery but is unable to do so, the leave may be extended up to the end of April after the child reaches the age of three.

Other Systems Supporting Achievement of a Good Balance between Work and Childcare

  • Reduced working hours system for childcare
Employees can reduce working hours per day until the end of April of the year in which their child enters the fourth grade of elementary school.
  • Leave in the case of sickness or injury of a child
Employees raising a child who has not yet entered elementary school can take this leave if they need to take care of an injured or sick child, or accompany the child for vaccination, medical checkup, etc.
  • Systems for family care
Employees who have a family member requiring care can take nursing care leave and use the reduced working hours system.
  • Initiatives for the Act on Advancement of Measures to Support Raising Next-Generation Children

Onward Kashiyama Co., Ltd. was certified under the Act on Advancement of Measures to Support Raising Next-Generation Children as a company that provides superior childcare support. This certification attests to the achievement of the Company's initiatives based on its general business operator action plan for the period from 2010 to 2014. Based on the newly formulated action plan, we will continue our efforts to create an environment where employees can fully demonstrate their abilities while achieving a good balance between work and childcare.

  • Establishing a Guidebook to Support Balancing of Work and Childcare
The guidebook informs employees about the systems related to childbirth and childcare, with recommendations on how and why employees should aim for a good work-life balance. It can be viewed on the company's internal portal.
In addition to information about systems, the guidebook also contains practical lifestyle advice, including advice on finding daycare centers and housework to share with the family. The goals are to eliminate barriers to taking childcare leave, create an environment that makes it easier for everyone to take their childcare leave, and achieve 100% uptake of childcare leave.

Initiatives to Facilitate Taking of Childcare Leave by Male Employees

We will cultivate an environment in which male employees can take childcare leave in the same way as female employees.

  • 1) Training of managerial personnel
Management training to encourage male employees to take childcare leave
  • 2) Father-to-be & Mother-to-be seminar
Seminars for male employees whose spouse or partner is expecting a child and female employees who are expecting a child on the desirability of childcare leave for men and of childcare as the couple's shared responsibility
